How to fight cold symptoms in 24 hours

fight cold symptoms

When winter comes to a head, it is inevitable to experience certain cold symptoms that prevent us from doing our normal daily activities.

We feel so tired that we only want to stay in bed.

When the climate is cold, our immune system weakens , and we generally suffer from flu , colds, coughs and muscle aches, among others.

For all that we have said before, it is important to be well prepared to face the cold days, and adopt a healthy routine that will allow us to feel strong about any health problems that may arise as a consequence of low temperatures.

Professor Ron Eccles of the Common Cold Control Center at Cardiff University (UK) has developed a method to avoid cold symptoms caused by a cold climate and defeat them in just 24 hours .

07:00 – Take a hot shower

If because of the cold climate, you have pain in the joints or headaches, a hot shower will allow you to start the day well.

Hot water helps to relax and the steam helps clear the paranasal sinusesto avoid congestion and problems like sinusitis.

08:00 – A healthy breakfast

Healthy Breakfast

A good diet is essential to recover cold symptoms.

The breakfast is one of the keys to start the day and fight cold symptoms.

You can eat a natural juice of orange and eat a cup of antioxidant berries with a little oats, to have all the energy necessary for your day.

Another great option is breakfast a vegetable broth or chicken.

10:00 am – One inhalation

During a period of cold, the nose becomes congested and we have excess phlegm, which prevents us from breathing normally.

When paranasal sinuses are clogged, the most likely is to suffer from sinusitis, which usually causes terrible headaches .

In this case, it may be useful to consume an over-the-counter medication, or a natural remedy to decongest the nose.

You can also inhale by covering your head and leaning over a bowl of boiling water for 5 minutes  to calm and unblock the airways.

At noon – go for a walk

While it sounds a little crazy to go out in the cold, going out for a walk at lunchtime can help you improve your mood and boost your immune system .

Do not think that you will get worse by going outside when it’s cold. Cover well and take a walk, it will be a great help.

13:00 – Lunch time

Instead of eating fried and unhealthy foods at lunchtime, it’s a good idea to prepare some grilled chicken with salad .

Chicken proteins help produce more immune cells that help fight disease. The vegetables in your salad are rich in antioxidants and essential nutrients to fight colds.

15:00 – A healthy drink

At tea time, it is ideal to consume a good hot herbal tea, to dilute and expel the phlegm more easily.

You can replace the tea with a glass of orange juice which, thanks to its high vitamin C content, is excellent for recovering cold symptoms.

18:00 – Dinner time

At dinner time, it is good to eat a spicy dish like curry or chili con carne.

This type of food will help you increase body temperature and help reduce cold symptoms .

Other ingredients to consider in your dinner are ginger, garlic and peppers, which are particularly renowned for their antiviral and antibacterial properties, and help us fight colds and clear paranasal sinuses.

20:00 – A relaxing bath

At the end of the day, your muscles are very likely to be tired and sore due to the cold weather.

To sleep well and relax your muscles, the ideal is to take a bath of hot water between one to two hours to go to bed .

You can add to this bath a few drops of eucalyptus essential oil to enhance its effects against cold symptoms.

22:00 – Time to rest and sleep 8 hours

It is very important to go to bed early and have a good night’s sleep to recover quickly.

A good quality of sleep strengthens the immune system and helps fight cold symptoms .

You should avoid drinking drinks such as coffee or alcohol before going to bed because they can disturb your sleep.
